On December 23, 1958, Woody married his high school sweetheart, Myrna Joy Cook, with whom he celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary last year. Woody graduated from Holland High School in 1955. He served honorably in the Air Force from 1955-1959. After being discharged from the Air Force, Woody attended Western Michigan University, graduating in 1964 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. In 1964, he moved to Ypsilanti to work for General Motors. After a 39 year career as a Plant Engineer at the Hydra-Matic (Power Train) plant in Ypsilanti, he retired in 2003. Woody was a forty-plus year member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Ypsilanti, where he was always ready with a smile or a hug, a strong back or a soft shoulder. In 1984, he traveled to Haiti on a mission trip. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include: his sister, Edith Lou Goodyke of Chandler, AZ; three children, Tania Bos of Ypsilanti, Todd (Kristin) Bos of Ypsilanti and Tammy (Jim) Scheerhorn of Holland; and four grandchildren, Lauren and Drew Bos and Anna and Grace Scheerhorn. Grandpa loved his grandchildren very much and always enjoyed attending their activities and performances. He was always very proud of their accomplishments.
